No Sweat, Mav (when you get a sec, go ahead and pick a callsign btw -- that will help). Thank Nexx for the sticky idea btw, I should've thought of that!

OK. In brief, you all folded from Earth's moon to a set of coordinates taken from the mecha of the dead Invid/Human thing.

This lead you all to a planet that was obviously occupied by the Invid! Most of the activity seemed to be concentrated on one of the planet's four main continents -- and of course, in the space above that continent. As such, the Southern Cross headed for a continent on the other side of the world and landed. Before the Southern Cross landed, Bones and Starscream were sent east to scout ahead, with the intention of them securing a safe campsite. This campsite was to be on the continent where the Invid were concentrated, not on the continent where your ship landed.

Once the Southern Cross had landed, everyone else in unit Theta took off eastward to meet up with Bones and Starscream. However, en route it has come to your attention that something down in the jungle is shooting at you all.

Meanwhile, Bones and Starscream have reached where the continent you all are on ends, and the ocean begins -- and have found the waters to be infested with dozens, if not hundreds, of Invid. You all areinvisible to the Invid's Sensors (shadow technology masks your energy "protoculture" emissions, which is how the Invid track from a distance), but they can still physically see you, and as such Bones and Starscream are planning to not try to cross the ocean alone.

Whiles Bones and Starscream were crossing the continent, before they got to the Ocean, Bones picked up a faint distress beacon from an UEEF ship -- something that he shouldn't be picking up. Originally commanding officer Welkin told them to ignore it, but now that they're faced with an ocean of Invid, Starscream wants them to head for the beacon and see what they can see.

And that is what's going on, right now.

Mav, and anyone else who was lost, did that help?

Al, still need your reaction to you guys being fired upon, btw -- I know you got caught up in what Bones and Starscream are up to.

Opens com to Welkin;
"Sir we are taking fire from below the canopy, I'd assume Invid would swarm us, perhaps indigenous then?

Orders to engage?"

Immediate checks of your scanners do not indicate a city or habitat -- seems there's about twenty or so life readings that are firing upon you all. As far as range goes, their range is actually terrible -- they're totally missing you all due to lack of range, it's just a matter of shots being fired that's got your attention.

Now that folks are noticing it's happening, by the by, it seems to be a mix of jets of fire and shots of lightning coming up from beneath the treetops.

((any military intelligence *snicker, snicker* on any alien weapons that produce such streams of energy?

obviously flamethrowers for the gouts of flames, but does anything throw lighting (I guess a particle beam can look that way)?))

Anything on audio? I know that's gonna suck, but if I do my best to account for the noise of the jets?

Hmm. You can definitely pick up sounds on audio, though it's broken. But none of it is in any language you all are trained in.

Was there any hint that there could be other indigenous life forms on this planet?

Truthfully, you all just kinda dove right into it. This very well might be that hint, however. Bones and Starscream of course have a far better hint, which should be getting fed to your computer systems any second now.

They're not even twitching though, so I'm going with 'probably not alive'. Hold on, let me zoom in for a better look at 'em." A few moments later, "They look like...cat people? Big black furred cat people. Weird."

As soon as coming under fire Welkin yanks up on the stick and shouts into the comm

"All units break off, grab altitude, and watch your scopes for incoming! Weapons hot and free and check the skies and get me a damned location on that ground fire! Stone, pour some gunfire down on that tree line, open up some of that damned forest. Destiny and Genius, flatten anything exposed with a barrage. They notify their command and we'll have more Invid on us than stars in the sky! Burn em' out"

Welkin converts his Valkyrie to Guardian mode, strafing sideways while setting up for a dumbfire missile volley into the trees

"Confirm live fire, sir!"

following Welkins orders, I launch a volley of...(insert appropriate missile type, I don't have my books with me at the moment, but I believe I have so HE mini-missiles available on the Bioroid)..trying to clear some of the tree cover from the location of the ground fire.

"Confirmed, Major."

Deehai hits guardian mode to sit above the area. Then, on a private channel to the Major.

"Major, given that they're not boiling up out of there like a hornet's nest hit with a stick, don't you think it's possible that they're natives who have mistaken us for Invid, and that blowing the ever-loving crap out of them might not be the best course for diplomatic relations?"

(Have I mentioned I love being the comm officer?)

Welkin changes to the private frequency and motions to Stone's missile volley streaking towards the trees with his mecha's arm

"Lieutenant, in two seconds that is going to be a non-issue."

"If they're natives and hate the Invid then they won't be telling the Invid we're coming. If they're Invid then we're at risk whether we fight or flee. Take no chances and leave no witnesses, you have your orders."

(I don't think anyone can fully understand how hard it was for me to resist making an ease of genocide comment to our full-blooded Zentraedi. Twisted Evil )

"Confirmed, missiles away!"

Natsuki engages Helicopter Mode and unleashes a barrage of short range missiles into the forest.

(any chance to kill some damned furries)

just to clarify, I'm aiming to knock down some canopy cover, not necessarily at any heat sigs or bio readings, though if they happen to be in the way, so be it...

"Acknowledged." Deehai waits for things to be exposed before opening fire with the GU.

So noted. Looks like you'll just make a better opening for Destiny, all the same.

Well, that was messy.

Those of you who were monitoring heat signatures see about ten of the signatures vanish as the Fire of the Gods is launched from your mechs into the terrain below (Cyber, I never did get you those Hoverpod stats did I? I will tonight -- thing has its own built in weapons).

Stone's initial barrage obliterates a good quarter to half acre of jungle, providing ample room for a couple of you to move in for your mech's personal weaponry to come into play. Destiny's secondary assault opens up a second pocket of open terrain, a bit smaller and to the north.

The remaining heat signatures have taken to scattering to the West and South, but are moving at easily trackable speeds.

Of the vanished head signatures, that were caught in the missile attacks, there are no visible remains.

My bioroid drops into the freshly smoking clearing, weapons at the ready as I light up the forest in the direction of the fleeing combatants with whatever spotlights my suit might have

"Sir, combatants moving due (insert direction here), moving to intercept!"

at which point I scramble through the trees like a jaugernaut, trying to catch a visual of whatever was firing on us.

"Wish we'd gotten a look at them...no telling what other xenoforms we might encounter on this planet."

Notes Stone's muttered comment, and takes into account heavy duty mosquito net for personal use at campsite, when set up...
