I've decided to spend a brief amount of time in your home shadows. As such, I allow you to set your own initial scene. Once you've done so, I shall step in from there.

Shaen, you're up first. Time, day, month, year, location, and whatever else you feel necessary to tell us about. What're you up to?

Shaen awakens to a blinding headache, a pounding behind his eyes reducing his world to nothingness. The pure white pain brings about despair, realizing he has awakened to the same white nothingness he floated in for unknown eons before losing his grip on reality.

Slowly, the pain fades, and his vision returns. The nothing has gone, and left in its place a washed out, faded looking crumbling ruin. Slowly, the ruins start to look more solid. though he is unsure if his vision is simply clearing or if reality is coming back into existence around him. Sitting up brings a fresh stab of pain through the back of his neck, and he quickly leans back against a chunk of rubble. Taking in his surroundings as he rests away the pain, they slowly take shape. Though they have fallen and been overgrown, the layout of the walls does match the citadel he had come to investigate. Their condition would indicate they have been crumbled and unoccupied for a number of years.

Unsure if it is a good idea or not, Shaen stands, shaking out the kinks in his muscles and checking his kit. Everything appears to be in order, so he sets out to satisfy his curiosity. Poking around the ruins reveals no new points of interest or enlightenment. With a mental shrug, Shaen sets off through the forest toward a small village which was in the area, hoping to find answers of what has happened here.

As the forest began to thin, you find yourself approaching a pair of the outlying farms that had been abandoned when last you walked these lands. The height of the crops indicate that at least some life has returned, though there are no obvious indicators as to whether the life be friend or foe.

As you near the worn path that would take you through the village, a small youth dressed in orange and green casually steps out from the nearer of the farms. He is no more than twenty years in age, and fair of complexion and coloring. He waves you over and begins to walk towards you at the same time. "Are you lost, traveler? I've not seen a living soul come from the west in many moons."

Shaen waves in a friendly manner. "Well met! I did indeed have a bit of trouble locating the landmarks I was told about, but I seem to have won free of those bloody woods at last!" Shaen offers his hand, and glances around the farmstead, nodding appreciatively. "Looks like the season will be treating you well. I can see why you don't get many coming from that way though" Shaen jerks his thumb over his shoulder at the woods with a grimace "Bloody woods are like a damned maze! And there was some creepy looking ruins back there too, didn't want to get too close to those for sure. Could be haunted or something right? You can never be sure about places like that."

Pulling his water skin from his belt and uncapping it, Shaen pauses a moment "Hey, you think I could top this off? A bit stale after a few days in there ya know?"

"Of course, of course" the youth motions over towards a barrel which seems built to store water. "Though, you seem the type able to handle yourself well, even against the weird." (Scratch that last part if your clothing wouldn't mark your occupation, I felt like your gear was almost a uniform)

Something is triggering in the back of your head now. You're not sure quite what it is, but there's just something off about this youth, or maybe with the farms, or it could all just be in your head. You did just wake up from Lord knows what, after having been out for Lord knows how long. Plus, where were you, that you were just left behind like that? How would you like to proceed?

"Well, you cannot roam too far these days without knowing how to take care of yourself a bit" Shaen pats the belt holding the Bloodspikes as he speaks. "But still, that's no reason to go inviting trouble, especially from a good size ruin like that, who knows how many beasts could make a home in a place that size. I'm betting there's quite a story behind that place." Gesturing to the shadow cast by a large tree he continues "Say, do you mind if I enjoy the shade a moment and take a quick meal before I continue on?"

As he speaks, and settles to take his meal if allowed to do so, Shaen tries to place why the farm looks familiar. He tries to place this location in relation to the now ruined keep and remember what should be here.

((OOC: Dress would be the leather under a light robe designed for ease of movement, a standard cut issued to most of the church agents who travel outside the walls. No heraldry, but a distinctive cut makes it easily recognizable.))

"Beasts in the ruins?" The youth's words are filled with humor. "Impossible. Hasn't been a beast, natural or otherwise, dare set foot on those grounds since their Dark Lady tore them down centuries ago. Not much of a story beyond that though. She lost something important, she did. Good, I say" and then the youth spits in the dirt. "Creature like her, she deserves a little loss."

"Now then, are you sure you're really hungry?" Did the youth's eyes just flash orange?

Shaen keeps a close watch on him, but keeps his manner friendly. "That is a story I would love to hear, collecting good tales is half the pleasure of traveling. If you prefer I can have my meal as I continue on though, would hate to impose and all. Is there perhaps a town or village in the area I could restock on a few staples?" Shaen pats his pack as he speaks, remaining friendly and casual, while keeping a close watch on the young mans eyes.

"Oh no, feel free to eat here. I'll tell you all about the tale, I just need to handle a couple of matters inside first. I wasn't expecting a strange visitor." And with a polite bow the youth excuses himself and heads into his home.

Shaen takes a moment to look around, seeking anything familiar to explain this deja voo. Settling beneath a tree he tries to keep himself totally open to anything out of the ordinary or unusual while digging some rations out of his pack and awaiting the return of the young man.

You feel a general psychic disturbance coming from inside the house, as if psychic energies were gathering there, or rather, flowing through there.

At the same time, a rather old man, at least in his sixties, and with the features and size of a lifetime farmer, comes running up to you from a distant field. At about twenty feet off he starts to shout, "Stranger! What are you doing on my farm?"

Shaen waves in a friendly manner to the approaching farmer "Greetings! I was just having some lunch. Your helper there" Shaen gestures toward the house while speaking "Said it was ok if I made my meal here before continuing on."

While greeting the farmer, Shaen keeps his sense focused on the farm, seeking for any sign of what is actually going on here.

"Helper?" The old man suddenly seems quite wary. "unless you mean old Blue" as he points towards a mule a bit away, "I've tended these fields alone for years, since my last son went off to Bairon to work in one of their 'factories'." The word almost came out like a curse.

From inside the house you can almost feel the air within grow colder, and is that a strong breeze you're hearing, from inside the house?

Standing quickly in alarm, his meal forgotten, Shaen says in a hushed voice "Elder, there is a young man in your house dressed in orange and green, less than 20 winters. He bid me welcome and said he had an errand to tend inside. You do not know this man?"

While speaking, he keeps an eye on the house and seeks for easy entry points and potential blind spots which could not be observed from within.

The elderly man looks even more alarmed now. "I've never heard of nor seen such a man, traveler."

From inside, the breeze dies. In immediate sight there's the doorway the youth went through, but there are probably other entrances if you pace the grounds. However, there are a number of windows that could betray your activities - and the arrival of the old man.

Food forgotten, Shaen stands quickly, hands slipping beneath his robe to take hold of the Bloodspikes. "Elder, please stay out of sight while I find the truth of this matter."

Shaen moves in a quick run, settling against the side of the small house next to the doorway. The spikes seem to almost hum with power, a slight trickle of blood sliding down his wrist as his grip has opened small cuts in his hands. Sense tuned for danger, Shaen nudges the door open with his boot, peeking in to see where the young man may be and what he is doing in the farmhouse.

You find the young man coming up from a bow that, even to your brief assessment, seems forced and lacking genuine deferment.

He had been bowing to a woman that was tall and regal, dressed in heavy black and blue armor, wrapped in a black cloak trimmed with white fur. She holds a sword in her left hand, and it hums audibly and glows with an icy blue shine. Her features, though strikingly beautiful, grab your attention for another reason. Her face, while touched with the graces of femininity, is otherwise almost like looking into a mirror.

Startled, Shaen tries to stay quiet, quickly ducking his head back around the door frame and out of sight. He tries to remain still and quiet enough to hear anything that might be said within, keeping a keen ear out for signs that he has been noticed or they are moving toward the door.

"This had better be worth my time. I was in the middle of an important negotiation." That voice!

"Oh trust me," says the youth. "This is far more important than any negotiations."

And as the two talk, they begin to walk towards the door.

Looking back, Shaen gestures the old man toward the nearest tree or barn, hoping he will move out of sight. He begins moving slowly toward the corner of the house, keeping his tread light trying to keep his steps quiet while his mind desperately tries to place the voice he has heard.

Someone from his past? Someone from the keep? A strange version of his own voice? His mind quickly cycles through the possibilities, reflexes keeping his steps quiet. With a quiet gasp, he misses a step, scraping the edge of the house as the stories of a sister never found rush back to the forefront of his thoughts. He glances around, remembering the old farmer, hoping he has ducked out of sight.

The old man must have had some military training in his youth, as he scampers with with a silence that is out of place with his advanced years.

A strange hum can be heard from within the house, starting as soon as you scrape against the house. It rapidly grows in volume, and then you get a moment's warning to dodge out of the way as a blast of blue energy the size of a man literally tears through the outer wall of the house, continuing on a good distance to tear through the nearby crops.

"All these years have made you clumsy, dear Brother. I fear there will be little sport in ending your life."

((OOC Switching to a first person post style I think, I like different styles for different characters and games, just finding the right feel still))

Hearing the thoughts in my head given voice as I have barely finished thinking them raises immediate suspicions. Creatures of the dark sometimes can pluck thoughts from the heads of the innocent. While I left my innocence long ago, the principle remains the same.

Eyes trailing over the side of the house and grasses scorched by the blast, it would seem that perhaps discretion would be the better part of valor here. Coming quickly to my feet after throwing myself from the path of the blast, I quickstep to a nearby tree. A glace back at the hole in the house and scorched grass makes me second guess myself, deciding that keeping a clean line of sight may do more to keep me alive than the trunk of the tree, I settle to a stop beside it, balancing lightly on my fee, ready to move in any direction.

"Is that any way to greet your long lost little brother? Dear sister, I fear your manners have slipped! What would Daddy say about us fighting like this?"

Hoping to fish out more information, I call out loudly to those leaving the cabin. Standing beside the tree, spikes held out to the sides, ready but not threatening I can feel my blood slowly sliding from the grips down to drip from the points, a few thick scarlet drops splashing to the rich green grasses below.

"How precious little you know about our Father! But you're right, brother, I should give you a better greeting. Come close, and I'll give you a kiss." Her blade is drawn, and she is moving closer to you, but not at a rapid rate. Her body is humming with power.

The youth has positioned himself off to the side, a smile from ear to ear plastered on his face.

"Now now Sis, that may be a bit premature, being that I don't even know your name. I appreciate the gesture of sisterly love, but I think perhaps we should get to know each other better first. I would feel much better about dieing if I at least knew why you wanted to kill me." I gesture vaguely over where my lunch lays abandoned on the grass, keeping my attention firmly on this disturbing mirror of myself. "Perhaps if we broke bread together?

I hold my ground, hoping to elicit some sort of reaction or hint as to what this is about. Before letting her within striking distance for a lunge I fall back, trying to circle the tree a bit to keep some space between us.
