I would feel much better about dieing if I at least knew why you wanted to kill me." I gesture vaguely over where my lunch lays abandoned on the grass, keeping my attention firmly on this disturbing mirror of myself. "Perhaps if we broke bread together?

I hold my ground, hoping to elicit some sort of reaction or hint as to what this is about. Before letting her within striking distance for a lunge I fall back, trying to circle the tree a bit to keep some space between us.

"I think a meal sounds like a lovely idea!" The youth shouts out, jogging over towards Shaen's lunch. "Come now dear, you can always kill him after we've eaten." Surprisingly, your "sister" seems to be deferring to the youth, though she won't make a move towards the youth until you do first.

A bit taken aback by this sudden development, I slowly walk over to my former dining space, careful to keep the armored woman in sight the whole time. Sure to keep plenty of distance for safety, I settle, tucking one leg beneath me while keeping the other foot planted in front of me, comfortable enough yet still a position I can freely move from. Tucking my blades away, I flick my hands to clean any stray blood from them, the rest seeming to almost have been sucked back into the small cuts in my hands.

"A bit of dried fruit and jerky always makes slaughter easier to handle I think. So would you like to tell me what I've done to anger you?"

Though I direct the question to my "sister" , I watch closely for a reaction from the young man as well.

Though she comes over to you and the youth, she refuses to sit, though she does sheath her blade. "I was angry at you, once, long ago. But we've grown far beyond anger. You..."

"Ahem." The youth cuts her off. "My, this is very dried. The fruit certainly didn't endure temporal displacement well at all. Blech." the youth spits a bit of the fruit out, but seems quite taken with the jerky. "Now then, your sister is under the impression that if she kills you, she'll gain ultimate power."

"Temporal Displacement? That would certainly explain the chewy apples. Well aged jerky though, is nearly a work of art all on its own. Now, why the grudge against me? Gaining true power is rarely as easy as just taking down someone you have a grudge against."

She raises her hand and prepares to shout at you, then bites down hard on her lip and spins, walking a short distance away. She's obviously frustrated, very frustrated.

"Well, the truth is, she really doesn't know how it'll work yet. You're just a carrot being dangled on a stick to her. Honestly, for all she's accomplished, I'm not sure she's that bright."

That brought her back to the conversation, as a blast of blue energy washed over the youth.

Or at least, it should have. He seems untouched once the blast passes, as does a small bit of grass and food around him. "She's spent too long with the beasts of this world," The youth continues on without missing a beat. "They bow and scrape and beg and obey, as well they should since she is their Queen. But it's left her a bit...unprepared for the subtleties of a real court."

I lurch back in surprise as the energy washes over the young man. "A neat trick that. Not easy to learn I suppose, most of the good ones aren't."

Settling back so sitting after being surprised I watch the woman, looking for similarities to myself, unsure if this is a ruse or a true, though wicked, twist of fate.

"It would seem you know more about where, or perhaps when, I am than I do. Care to tell me a little more before we proceed with this sacrifice bit? By the by Sis, that seems a little odd to me. 'Ultimate Power' just for killing someone? Seems a bit off to me, kinda sounds like you've been fed a line."

"It's all just a matter of time."

You've watched her like a hawk, but nothing has betrayed her ruse. As near as you can tell, she's the genuine article.

"You killed their men, brother. They are quite anxious to see you suffer." There's more the story, you can tell, but she seems hesitant to speak further. The youth holds incredible power, it seems.

"It sounds like a line, I agree, Shaen," the youth cuts in, "but there's more truth to it than you'd likely believe. However, no matter how mad They are at you, I suspect you'd receive the same offer. Kill your blood, and gain her power for your own, or such would the offer be."

"So let me see if I have this right. My darling sister was taken to the bosom of evil all those years ago, I've been caught in some strange time trap and now she is here to kill me because 'They' don't like me killing all their minions and somehow she will gain ultimate power through my death."

Gesturing to the young man as I continue to nibble at the jerky "So, where do you fit in this whole picture. I think it's clear you're a person of standing, I've just not figured out what yet."

Holding a piece out toward her, in offer to toss it "Jerky dear sister? It's quite good."

"I believe it has more to do with the gent you took those weapons from, Shaen, than the minions. Otherwise, that's more or less accurate."

"I'm the wild card in all this, the fifth ace. It's all quite amusing, when you've the right perspective. Though my foes would be so furious to know I'm this close."

"I don't eat meat. Unless it's from something I killed." The youth's presence has kept her in check, but you're getting the impression that this won't hold for much longer. Her hand hasn't left her blade's hilt in quite some time.

"Unfortunate I had to kill the previous owner of these blades, though to be fair he brought it on himself. I defend those without the skills to do so for themselves, and if you choose to look at it a different way I have much in common with that poor long dead man. We are both very good at killing and rather enjoy our work, but I can waltz into town and hold a pleasant conversation while buying an apple instead of having people fleeing or trying to kill me."

I stand, brushing the grass from my pants. "It would seem then, our talk has likely concluded. Sister dear is getting a bit itchy, and I am not so sure I believe that story to start with, it seems just a bit too convenient and aside from looking almost as pretty as I, there has been no evidence to support it. So far all I've seen is a manipulated cat's paw, likely sent as a distraction for whatever 'They' are really trying to do. I would like to express my appreciation however, for the civil manner in which this was handled, it's rare to meet people who want to kill me and still be willing to have a respectable conversation. You can only hear 'RAAAAAR DIE!' so many times before it just becomes tiresome."

As I speak, my hands drift closer to my weapon belt, not drawing but simply being ready. Using the words as cover, I concentrate on speed, agility, quickness. In the impending battle, matching my foes in brute force is not likely to end well.

((OOC:He does not have the level of control a chaosite would, rather he meditates on what he needs, opening himself to the possibilities. Aside from that most of his shapeshifting is reflexive.))

"Raar. Die" She deadpanned it, but was that a trace of a smile on your sister's lips? Either way, she draws her blade but does not commit to a charge yet. Her own musculature seems to be shifting slightly beneath her armor, as if she too was changing parts of her shape.

"I had hoped it wouldn't come to this," The youth mumbled to himself, sighing slightly at your sister as he reached within his cloak, pulling out a deck of cards that he begins to shuffle through.

Though slightly startled as my sister begins to shift a bit, I remain on guard. This is the first sign that perhaps she is truly something more than simply a lookalike.

"And how would you have it resolved? Though I am loathe to leave 'Their' agents in peace, killing family is rarely a good thing, doubly so as this is the first time in memory that I have met any of my family."

He doesn't seem to hear you, his eyes seem almost glazed, as if he was really lost in thought. Before you have a chance to say more however, your sister begins her charge!

Gods but I wish I would have brought one of Brother Hector's Ether Goggles to see if she's been spelled to look like me I curse myself for not being properly prepared.

I leap to the side trying to keep away from her as the Bloodspikes bite into my hands when drawn. One blade quickly follows the other as I loose them into the air, trying to pierce her armor at knee or ankle to slow her while moving away. Hoping the proximity of a tree will at least limit her striking options, I quickstep toward it, keeping my senses tuned for one of those blasts of eldritch energies.

The blade to the knee misses wide, but the ankle is struck, causing enough of a stumble for her slice to fall far short of your retreating form. She halts her attack for a moment, and the Bloodspike pops out of her ankle, as if her body forced it out. You can see the armor already sealing up the gap the spike made. She seems to be eying the spike, unsure of its properties. They must not have prepared her well.

Her speed and grace are astounding! Few have been able to match my well honed prowess in recent years

"Dear Sister, it would seem we both possess capabilities the other was not aware of. I do believe you are being played for a pawn, whatever he is doing over there is no more likely to benefit you than me."

As I speak I move closer to the tree, keeping close enough that it will limit her striking options but still allow me to keep an eye on her.

Her body flares with power, like a bolt was incoming!

But instead the tree you've taken cover by bursts into flames! "Gotcha" she giggles as the flames arc towards you.

Wincing at the heat, I roll away coming lightly back to my feet. As I tumble I scoop up a small stone or chunk of dirt and sod, flinging it in her direction as I come to my feet. Not so much to cause any inconvenience so much as to simply gauge her reflexes and reaction time. Drawing my blades, I rest lightly on my feet waiting for her next move. I carefully watch her movements, hoping to find a weakness but not really expecting to.

What I wouldn't give for an auto crossbow right now! I think irritably. O open my mind, feeling the form of this place. There is power in a place, dictated by the building blocks of reality. All things have an order to them, feeling that order can grant you power and I open myself to that insight.

((OOC:The last bit is just a little statement about how Shaen views his Power Words/Mudra working. By tapping into the Pattern that underlies all reality he channels it through gestures))

Your sister simply moves her head to the side, to dodge the sod. Though you note a small part of it still hits her cheek.

With your blades drawn, she comes to an internal decision, and moves to attack at full speed!

I think I'm faster than she is... at least I hope so!

Mentally crossing myself, I break my established pattern and lunge straight toward her. With my first step I fling a spike in her path, looking to strike her foot or even stick it in the ground in front of her foot. My now empty hand comes up before me, twisting to an odd and unnatural looking angle as it matches the underlying pattern of reality. A dim haze of energy seems to pulse around my hand for just a moment as it hits the precise angle to match the deeper reality, then flares to nothing. My psyche feels the shift and twist of power lining up to bless my actions.

I lunge forward, trying to get inside her reach before she can strike. With one hand I will try to catch her weapon hand and the other her helmet. My legs seek to tangle with hers to easier take her off them. Rather than trying to strike her, I seek to add as much of my momentum as possible to slam her roughly to the ground, ideally head first. As I prepare to crash into her, my center of gravity shifts down to facilitate my movements.

((OOC: Using the Defensive Luck power word, page 59. Results in a short time where I am particularly lucky or my foe is particularly unlucky. Like a short burst of 'Good Stuff', shifting from an all out defense fighting style to an all out offense style in the brief moment of luck though prepared to quickly shift back to saving my own ass fighting defensively!))

((would prolly help if I responded, eh?))

Your own spike undid your plan, for as it came low on her body, as your other spikes had, she appeared to have a stuttered step. In reality, however, she was prepping for a leap to go flying over the spike, and in the process to go over you as well. Your lucky charge might have done well to disarm her, but she was out of range, for it. Your luck does serve you in one instance, however, as her bolt of arcane energy went wide.

"You two seem evenly matched," A new voice says, no hint of mock or derision in his voice. This his colors are almost identical to the youth, they otherwise share no matching features. "Though I believe it is time to put your blades and spells away." Where had he come from?

"I think she may take more convincing than me!"

Though nervous to leave an unknown factor mostly unobserved, taking my eyes from the madwoman could cost me entirely too much. I remain ready to move, to dodge whatever she may throw my way while waiting to see what this most recent development brings.
