I had forgotten just how awful his artwork was until I started going through my books again recently.
Just...wow.
He makes Burles look good. |

No... no he doesn't. He may have issues, but he can draw a human without a huge techno-organic headdress. |

Burles is completely over the top, that is without question. Stylistically, he sucks. But at least he can draw.
But Breaux is just bad at art. His proportions are screwy, he lacks any kind of creativity, the shading looks like utter shit and.. goddamn. It's just bad. |

I'll say one good thing for Breaux.
He's still better than the kevins (siemsomething and long) |

Palladium art has always been very hit-or-miss. The best of their stuff is Dubisch's work in Dragons & Gods. |

Even the stuff I don't like, I kinda like.
I'm a sell out, I guess. |

Isn't that part of being a sell out? Drinking the Kool Aid?
There is art work in there that I personally don't like, but I allow the creative side of me to look at the style's elements and find the good things.
That's not a dwarf, that's a collection of strong lines, beautiful curves, bullshit artists talk about. |

I find his Robotech work to be excellent, myself.
Some of his animal head races are good, others are crap. I like his vehicles in Mercenaries, come to think of it. His humans though...they can be very iffy. |

The thing with Breaux is that I think he can draw some pretty awesome equipment. Guns, armour, robots, power armour, that sort of thing. But that is it. Anytime he tries to draw organics they just don't look good. |

Look at Breax's pencils.
If you can find his work before he tries to ink it, it's actually some of the best pieces Palladium has.
But good god almighty, the man needs to hire an inker/colorist. Everytime he inks one of his drawings, it comes out looking like ass. |

Is that in Phase World? If it is what I am thinking it is...yeah, it looks retarded. |

What shading? It was either pitch black or not - there was none of this "shading" you mention. Mind you, he did start to get better, but considering that he was already getting paid - I don't know how he kept getting work thrown his way, to be honest.
Then again, they've been dishing the ball to Burles pretty frequently as well, and that guy's art just makes me want to yell, "IT'S PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE IF AN ANGLE SNEAKS IN!!!" _________________ "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" - Dr. Samuel Johnson |

You don't need talent if you're personal friends with the guy running the company. That and Breaux had the advantage of being an artist with Palladium really early on in the company's history. Considering Siembieda's track record, the only way to fall from grace there is stealing a million bucks from him. |

Considering how long his next fucking book has been languishing on the backburner, maybe that's what he did.
Seriously, NMI had a copy of the book to use for his Open House game in fucking 2008. Where is my goddamn Atorian Empire book! Fuck. |

I liked Burles in Earthdawn, but it definitely fit the flavor of the world more, and when I first saw him in palladium I was "neat, it's that one guy from Earthdawn... wait...this sucks for Rifts "
no really it happened just like that _________________ So's Your Face! |

Can't say I miss Breaux all that much but - I know that this is going to draw some flaming shit my way - dang, I miss Kevin Long. The guy is a more than decent b&w draftsman (even if his colour work belongs on some sort of cartoon-licensed cereal box), and did a lot to visually shape some of the more iconic Rifts elements; I'm thinking most early era "tech-toys" like the original Dead Boy, GB and SAMAS. When I first glanced through the CWC and FQ worldbooks, I was just... shocked by some of the things I found in there.
But I also miss Martin, Perez (been a while since I saw a non-recycled Perez piece), and Ewell, so that sort of leaves me in a no-win situation with the art these days. |

Well, Vince Martin apparently doesn't professionally draw anymore, last I heard. A shame, since he's bar none my favorite Palladium artist.
Last I heard, Perez was still in an exclusive contract with DC comics (along with Freddie Williams, another favorite). So no new (professional) art from either, and it'd actually be pretty bad if that changed...
Not remembering Ewell at all, honestly. What books do you find his/her pieces? |

I met Newton at A-Kon back in 2002. He was a cool guy and we commiserated about his Palladium work. I think he was excited that someone there knew who he was, outside of the A-Kon staff. |

The super-intricate Atlantis pieces are all Ewell's; those were the ones that he'd probably be best known for. _________________ "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" - Dr. Samuel Johnson |

The Metzla, most of the Kittani stuff - pure Newton. I would have loved to have seen his takes on Kittani material of recent years.
Definitely good on Ramon with the DC thang; just got back from checking some of that out, and tis good. |

Palladium should have used Dubisch as much as they could, imo.
