Japan & Australia: These two nations suffered virtually no damage during the assault by the Zentraedi. They also remained stable in the following years, suffering virtually no external assaults or extensive civil unrest. Japan quickly established itself as the new home of the UEG, while the UEDF used Australia as the primary point of integration for their Zentraedi allies.

Of all the nations in the world, these are the most peaceful and the probable birthplaces for any member of the UEEF older than twenty years old.

Africa: Of the continents that were not ravaged by the Zentraedi orbital assault, was the most damaged due to human war. The civil wars that burned across the continent were bloody and costly. To this day there are still territorial disputes that spark up as smaller organizations try to carve out a chunk of independence from the UEG.

Africa suffered extensive depopulation in the years following the Zentraedi assault, at the hands of its own and in the wars with the UEDF and Breetai's forces. Though the majority of the continent's population is simply thankful to have order restored and to feel safe at night when they sleep, there are still a number of people who chafe at the UEG's control. Of course, most of them are just upset that they are not part of the ruling power in Africa, but that doesn't make the rebellions they lead any less dangerous. While Africa is safer than it has been in years as part of the UEG, it can still be a very dangerous land.

In the aftermath of most of Mainland Europe, Asia, and the Middle East all being obliterated, Africa has also become the new center for industrial and agricultural development. The UEG is working very hard at rebuilding the continent and turning it into the new Heart of Earth.

Players from Africa will have lived through absolutely miserable childhoods, and for the most part will have lived in incredible poverty, civil unrest, or strict martial law for most of their pre-adult life. As such, while the UEDF has a large percentage of Africans in its employ, the UEEF has a relatively small representation. People, for the most part, are simply more concerned with rebuilding their homes than striking out against forces worlds away.

South America: This continent came through the Zentraedi orbital assault and the years of rioting without too much disorder or death. The biggest problem with South America was simply that the Geography did not suit military actions by Giant Robots or Giant Zentraedi, and as such peaceful integration back into the UEG became a matter of conventional troops and diplomatic negotiations.

These negotiations allowed for greater self control by the native population in matters of staffing the UEG leadership in South America. Most of the leaders of the smaller nations transitioned their power as representatives for the UEG. As such, South America is a far more politically corrupt continent than any other part of the world. Martial law came to an end far earlier than it should have in much of the continent.

It is also relatively certain that several ships of Dolza's fleet were forced down into South America decades ago, and these forces still move from the more isolated regions of the continent to strike against the native population.

Players from South America have lived in a world where might makes right, and government sanctioned thuggery is still the rule of the day. As such, most UEEF soldiers from South America are either looking to escape from the controlled chaos of South America for more peaceful lands, or they're some of the more brutal and heartless members of the UEEF, which makes them perfect for the darker side of the Fleet.

North America: The Eastern Coast of North America is gone, obliterated by the Zentraedi. Thankfully, the military installations of the west coast and the farmlands of the Midwest survived intact. The UEG claimed those lands as part of their initial action, and it was the proper dispersal of the food grown in the Midwest that allowed much of the world's surviving population to not starve to death in those early years of civil unrest. North America and Central America were the first lands to fall under strict martial law, and as such never really experienced much in the way of rioting or warfare after Dolza's Fleet was dispersed.

North America's citizenry was almost universally brought into employment by the UEG, and while most recognize the necessity of such an action, it still bothered a number of the free thinkers and idealists that had long called North America home.

By now, twenty years later, those obligations have lessened as the rest of the world is more able to pick up its own end. As such, players from North America will usually be people that joined purely out of the desire to serve the world. They're abandoning the safer, more comfortable lives of farming, industrial work, or being a government agent of the UEG to wade into the front lines of battle against the rest of the galaxy as part of the UEEF. They tend to be action junkies, thrill seekers, or the truly directionless.

Great Britain, Scandinavia, and Russia: These northern powers survived the orbital assault, but immediately were faced with battles against ships from Dolza's Fleet that had been forced to Earth. Thousands of ships had fled to mainland Europe and Asia to avoid the deadly blasts of the Grand Cannon, the SDF-1, and Breetai's fleet. These ships released millions of Zentraedi out into the lands that have kept the northern nations in a state of constant warfare ever since. These fiercely independent nations stood against the Zentraedi for as long as they could, but were finally forced to join the UEG under less than favorable terms, to receive support from the UEDF.

Players from these final independent kingdoms will have vivid memories of being part of free nations that took great pride in their heritage, but who have now been absorbed, against their will, into the UEG. As such, most soldiers from these regions tend to be very bitter about their lot in life, but also tend to be some of the most capable soldiers, as they feel a constant need to prove their worth against the rest of the world.

A'ight, these should give you a solid enough feel for the world to be able to start sculpting your own personal stories. Ask questions as necessary, but otherwise you should all be in a position to start putting the finishing touches on your characters.
