Star Wars d20 Saga Edition

An alternate Infinites galaxy: What if the Separatists had won the Clone Wars?

Quote:
Episode IV: A New Beginning

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships,
striking from a hidden base, have won their first
victory against the evil galactic Confederacy.

During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal
secret plans to the Confederacy's ultimate weapon,
the Nova Star, an armored dreadnought with enough
firepower to destroy an entire planet.

Pursued by the Confederacy's sinister agents,
Jedi Knights Luke and Leia Skywalker race home,
custodian of the stolen plans that can save their people
and restore freedom to the galaxy...

Twenty years ago, over the skies of Coruscant, a daring raid by Separatist commander General Grievous succeeded in eliminating not only Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, but also his would-be rescuers, Generals Kenobi and Skywalker.

With the loss of these leaders, the Republic quickly found itself being overrun. Losses in the Outer Rims put even more pressure on Republic strongholds in the Mid Rim, and soon, even the Core Worlds were being threatened.

The Senators of the Republic saw no other way. After nearly 5 long years of fighting, the Republic surrendered to the Separatists, and was absorbed into the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS). Count Dooku remained as President and has won, by overwhelming majority, every election since.

Some Republic holdouts, notably Senator Padme Amidala of Naboo, fled before the Separatists occupied Coruscant. Fleeing from the Death Mark still carried on her head from the Confederacy’s Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gungray, Senator Amidala has become the cornerstone of the fledgling Alliance to Restore the Republic, more commonly called the Rebel Alliance (or Rebellion).

The CIS Fleet, under the command of Supreme Commander, General Grievous, hunts down both these Rebel scum, and independent pirates. While each member world is responsible for maintaining it’s own Navy, the Federal Fleet is still daunting in size and power, and enforces Dooku’s will upon the galaxy.

Battle Droids of all shapes and sizes continue their never-ending hunt for remnant Jedi and Clonetroopers, as well as maintain the peace on the thousands of star systems that make up the CIS. With them, the watchful eye of the Confederacy is upon all its’ people.

Life is the galaxy is hard, the central government only worried about collecting its’ due taxes, and maintaining production quotas. Corporate greed and malfeasance is taking its toll upon the people, and they begin to grow weary, of this new order…

Major Organizations:

- The Confederacy of Independent Systems: The ruling organization of the galaxy. Headed by President (Count) Dooku, with numerous Viceroy’s serving as his lieutenants and aide-de-camps. Dooku commands the largest army ever seen in the galaxy, and a Navy nearly its match. Even at his advanced age, Dooku’s sheer force of will and personality will likely see him retaining his position, till the day he dies. Dooku gives many pretty speeches about the values of Member Worlds and Individual Rights, but everyone in power knows he wields absolute control over the Confederacy.

- The Trade Federation: Both a governmental and civilian institution, the Trade Federation is the premier import/exporter in the galaxy. They move materials in such bulk, that many smaller operators find they cannot make an honest day’s wages, increasing the amount of small operators engaging in smuggling and piracy! Nearly every world in the galaxy now has a city dedicated to Trade Federation offices and warehouses, and the company is as maligned, as it is praised.

- The Techno-Union: The skilled labor of the galaxy finds itself more and more absorbed into this monolithic organization. Mountains of credentials, forms, and other paperwork clog through the Techno-Union, yet no work will commence on any project of size, without their approval. In recent years, labor has become a scarce commodity, so the Techno-Union now has a Slave Union as well, to meet the increased need for a workforce in the hectic galaxy. Debtors have a nasty habit of finding themselves here, and many people are but an accident away, from the slave’s gallows.

- The Intergalactic Banking Clans: The money that flows through the galaxy, flows first into the Clan’s hands. While never an official member of the Separatist Council, the Banking Clans did offer particularly large sums of money (at surprising low interest) to the CIS in the early days of the war. Their gambit paid off handsomely, not only in direct returns, but in their favored status following the war. The blood, sweat, and tears of thousands of worlds flow through the Clan’s banks, and they make sure to get their cut.

- The Alliance to Restore the Republic (Rebel Alliance): Lead by the former Senator from Naboo, Padme Amidala, the remnants of the Republic Fleet move about the galaxy, harassing the CIS Fleet, engaging in limited piracy, and building for a larger foundation to oppose the CIS in the future. To this end they are constantly looking not only for soldiers, but also support personnel, materials, consumables, and sympathetic planets and/or organizations to their cause.

- The Hutt Crime Families: Having sided with the Republic in the Clone Wars, the Hutt Crime Families find many of their old endeavors crushed by opposition from Trade Federation exec’s and power-mongers. But the Hutt families have old connections, and they’ve faced more than one conquering army in their time. The Hutts bid their time, waiting for opportunity to once again find them, in smiting their foes.

- The Jedi Order: Gone is the day where the Jedi numbered in the thousands. The loss of the Temple at Coruscant was a disaster, but nearly two decades of being non-stop hunted by the relentless Droid and living forces of the CIS, has worn down their numbers even further. Few councils sit in deliberation anymore, and most Jedi have severed their ties to the Republic, and even within their own Order. Instead, many have adopted a wandering, master/apprentice relationship, as the Jedi in old times practiced. They wander, doing what good they can, a few glittering glimpses of light in a galaxy of darkness.

- The Sith Enclave: There are two Sith Lords; Count Dooku as Darth Tyranus, the Sith Lord Master, and Asajj Ventress as Darth Malus, the Sith Lord Apprentice. But there are more than two, now. Dooku has been secretly turning Jedi to the Dark Side, and they now serve as his Acolyte’s. Both Dooku and Ventress foster these Acolyte’s, and test them, hoping to one day to find either a new apprentice, or one that could help them become the Master. Till that fateful day, these Dark Jedi secretly serve the Confederacy, and hunt their former comrades.

Galactic Gazetteer

Count Dooku (Darth Tyranus): The most powerful man in the galaxy, as both the President of the Confederacy, and the Sith Lord Master of the new Sith Order. Despite his extremely advanced age (102), the Count is still a relatively virile man, and his experience more than makes up for slower reflexes. Dooku’s greatest asset is still his mind, and his cunning use of strategy, both militarily and politically, makes him a nigh irresistible force.

Asajj Ventress (Darth Malus): If there ever was Death given mortal form, Darth Malus would be it. She has given herself completely to the Dark Side, and is an unrepentant scourge against the few remaining Jedi left in the galaxy. She finds her Master rarely calls on her anymore, which serves Malus just fine. It allows her to pursue her true ambition, and exterminate the light of the Jedi from the galaxy forevermore.

General Grievous: Supreme Commander of the Forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems (SCCIS for short), General Grievous has not been tempered by the passage of nearly two decades. He remains one of the most cold-blooded, methodical killing machines ever spawned in the cosmos. If anything, he has become even more vicious, as he feels compelled to maintain his reputation, and feed it with the blood of his enemies.

Boba Fett: Considered a traitor by the remaining Clonetroopers/Mandalorians, Boba is the only unaltered clone of the original Jango Fett, and has become the galaxy’s most famous assassin. No target, whether Senator, General, or Jedi, is safe when Dooku releases his favorite hound. Even if he has to travel the galaxy over, Fett never gives up his prey, and to date, he’s never failed to complete his mission, either.

Nute Gunray: The aging Viceroy in charge of the Trade Federation, Gungay’s organization was instrumental in supplying the Separatist movement with the Droid Armies that were used during the Clone Wars. The years that have followed have been ones of unequaled expansion and profit for the Federation, if at the expense of the greater galaxy. But for Gungay, the riches of the galaxy are not enough, and he constantly schemes for new ways, to bleed more money into his pockets.

San Hill: Being the most successful banker in the history of the galaxy would be San Hill’s claim to fame. Fortunately, it’s all he ever wanted in life too, so San Hill lives a life he very much appreciates. Never one to let opportunity pass him by, he’s more than willing to fund two sides of a conflict, if assured the victory for either opponent means money in the IGBC vaults.

Wat Tambor: The force driving technological change within the CIS, Wat Tambor has had a very frustrating couple of decades, since the close of the Clone War. Development costs time and money, and the other Viceroys all too often scoff at the limited returns, of Tambor’s ambitions. The arms and equipment of the CIS are nearly identical to those found two decades ago, except for limited runs of Tambor’s pet projects.

(Marrowlight asked about the Clonetroopers, and I forgot to add their blurb... Embarassed )

Well, it's been twenty years since the Clone Wars, so the "advanced aging" built into most of the original Clonetroopers has made them obsolete; rather than being 40ish, they're physically 60ish.

That said, the aging defect does not pass on to their offspring. And yes, Clonetroopers can have offspring in my universe; they're not born sterile.

The Clonetroopers were in a bad spot after the war; they were born and bred to be the Republic's fighting force, and they were on the losing side of the War. Most continued fighting with Republic Remnant forces (many that became the backbone of the Rebellion), but their numbers were slowly dwindling...

A little over a decade ago, a figure emerged in custom Clonetrooper armor calling himself "The Mandalore". He unified most of the scattered corps of men, using the culture of their trainers & original genetic template, the Mandalorians.

Today, Clonetroopers and their descendents don't consider themselves "clones", but the revived Mandalorian race. Their Code seeks to combine pragmatism & honor, so they don't descend into barbarism like their ancient forebears.

In addition to the children of the Clonetroopers, the Mandalorians will accept membership from any alien race that will swear to the Code, pledge themselves to the Mandalore, and wear the armor of the Mandalorians (the Stormtrooper armor in the main book).

Mandalorian characters will get the armor for free, but are expected to serve, and not always at a time or place of their choosing...

There are of course whispers of dark secrets about the Mandalorians. Mandalorians maintain their own ships, their own weapons aboard Rebel spacecraft. Rumors abound of secret fellowships within the organization, many tied to the mysterious figure known only as "Mandalore". Secrets, which may just be true...

Since I know someone's gonna ask me about ranks at some point...

Enlisted Ranks:
E-1: Enlisted
E-2: Private
E-3: Specialist
E-4: Corporal
E-5: Sergeant
E-6: Master Chief

Officers:
O-1: Ensign
O-2: Lieutenant
O-3: Captain
O-4: Colonel
O-5: Commander
O-6: General

Yes, Jedi still start as Officers, but they have to earn their way up now, instead of "insta-promoting" to Commander or General.

Pretty much everyone else, starts as an Enlisted, but can train to become an Officer. Better than 90% of all Rebel Alliance Officers started as Enlisted grunts. Organics are instantly Officers in the CIS military (for better or worse).

For the purposes of the starting characters, Tas is considered a Lieutenant (O-2), and Crais and <Gil's character> are considered Specialists (E-3).

Certain Feats and Talents will cause in game promotions, as well as acts of daring-do...
