"It is the year 2009, and the beginning of the end started a liitle over 25 years ago..."

"One night, all the major superhero teams on the planet just disappeared. The Avengers. The Fantastic Four. Even the X-men. Couple of others also disappeared, like the ol' Webhead, and the Hulk."

"Oh, some of the worst villains also disappeared too. Kang, Ultron, the Enchantress, an assortment of Spidey's rogue's gallery. And some other assorted riff-raff..."

"...but there's always more, waiting in the wings."

"I watched as it all began to fall apart, struggling daily in the vain hope to keep it all together, as a new generation of would-be heroes were thrust into being mankind's salvation. They all suffered; many died, many fell, and the people came to hate their heroes as much as the villains they were trying to protect them against."

"The end came when Congress signed into law the Mutant Registration Act."

"Freedom died that day. I knew then that war, bloody civil war, would be the only outcome. And it would be yet another war in my lifetime."

Criminials would go to jail. Innocents would go into "Protective Custody", which was jail by another name.

The Government re-activated the Sentinel's program. Began churning out the multi-million dollar robots faster than military planes, after the Soviet Union collapsed.

People began to run to the Canadian border, if they suspected they, or their loved ones, might be mutants. And the border grew tighter each passing year.

Soon, the people who could potentially have mutant children, the so-called "anamalous humans", began getting rounded up for internment.

The world cried out in horror. The European Union talked about imposing trade sanctions, the Chinese censored the US for human rights abuses. Even Britain sent a nasty letter.

Then, last year, 25 years to the day when all the heroes vanished, the Sentinels attacked.

They laid waste to American cities, seeking out the last holdouts and refugee's from their brutal internment program. Tired of mutants fleeing to the north, Sentinels from the US invaded Canada, quickly destroying their surprised military. Even in Canada, mutants must now hide in the deep forests, evading Sentinel patrols.

Oh, the world was shocked. Sanctions uniformly came down on the US, and Britain let them know on no uncertain terms, if American imperialism extended any further out, Britain would use it's nuclear deterrent, along with France and Russia.

It's a dark time right now, in my beloved country. But it's always darkest, before the dawn...

Some of us won't go gently into that good night. Some of us will fight, no matter what. For some of us, it's the only thing we've ever known.

We're building a new resistance. A force to take back our country, which has spiraled into madness. We look to restore the Freedom and Liberty others have taken from us.

I have my Thunderbolts. Justice, like lightning, ever should appear to few men's ruin, but to all men's fear.

Word reaches us that in the battleground of New York, a new team of Avengers has taken the fight to the Sentinels, making them folk heroes amongst the people.

It's a long and bloody war ahead of us, that's for certain. And I intend to win it!"
