It was as easy as walking through a doorway. Moment earlier it had been a warm summer afternoon near New Lazlo, and now you look out upon the world and feel a distinct chill. It is night, and off in the distance the eerie glow of red peppers the horizon. You stand at the nexus of two ley lines, both glowing with the same red energy as on your Earth. The land around you is farmland, judging by the fact that your vision is obscured by a field of corn, stalks taller than either of you. Corn grown so close to a Nexus seems most unnatural to you both. There are a number of animal and insect noises all around you, but nothing that sounds hostile.

Welcome to Earth Two.

Looking around and deciding there probably isn't any immediate danger Fext is going to open himself and see if there is anything different about the red ley line energy in it's feel or 'taste'.

The energy flows into your body easily enough, but once inside you, it feels tense. Almost as if the blue energy you'd gathered before the journey was refusing to merge with the red energy of Earth Two. You feel certain you can use either kind to weave your spells, however.

While Fext does his mystic gauging, Andrew is going to systematically test each of his powers while giving his vehicle a once over and ensuring that everything mechanical still operates properly. Breaking into a swarm he will crawl all over the inside and outside of his vehicle to ensure nothing unwanted has attached itself...and if it has he will exterminate with extreme prejudice.

After everything is to his satisfaction...

"Well Mr. Fext, what is your take on our current situation?"

"Well the energy here is... different. No idea why though, but it seems like it would work the same as the energy back on the other Earth. If you can hold out on moving out I'd lack to cast a few spells to see if there's been any activity around here recently."

With that Fext will begin to absorb some more PPE from the Nexus, then cast Retro-viewing looking back 7 hours to see if anything was happening then.

Welcome to four hours of boring ass farming labor. There's a team of ten, maybe twenty humans working these fields. Hell if you know for sure, they're farmers. They all look alike.

The Vehicle is also clean, and is not in need of a fifth element like purge.

Andrew merely shrugs and secures everything, checking safeties and clip charges, then locks the back hatch and climbs into the cab of the RHV waiting.

"It's all the same to me. Exploring these things isn't going to be over and done with in a day and I do so loathe being caught unawares."

While Fext casts his spells Andrew retrieves his pair of IR binocs and begins to do a sweep of the area, marking distances to obvious landmarks and elevated ground he can't see over.

It appears you're not too far from a barrack or commune of some kind. A lot of bodies, even if most of them are at rest.

Also, there's some strange looking towers dotting the landscape. Too small for people to be inside them. You're not sure what they're for.

Looking at them and the vehicle, do I see any hi-tech equipment or weapons, or do they seem pretty 'secure'?

Err, sorry, I was referring to Al in that part. I should've made two posts, or spliced in you both, but I was being lazy. Your vehicle is clean.

You see no high-tech weapons, but their vehicles are definitely high tech. ((I'm just going to call stuff MDC, even though it'd have a different name in game)) MDC farming equipment is certainly a sight to behold.

Fext turns to Andrew after canceling the spell "Well the sure look to be well equipped farmers, but rather secure too, no signs of any armor or weapons from what I could see. So where to from here? Their main barn or whatever farmers live in?"

"What did the farmers look like? Humans, humanoid, or something altogether different? I don't want us traveling into the heart of the unwelcome."

Andrew does one last sweep with the binocs to see if anything is watching them or of anything of note, then puts them away in the driver's storage space

"I see nothing along the ridgelines...we must be in a relatively safe spot if there are no scouts for a farm."

They were all human looking, and they looked quite healthy. Good ole Nebraska farm boy types.

"Well they looked like healthy and 'normal' humans... though one never knows for sure with a sight observation." Looking around the fields and over at the farm house he turns back to Andrew, "We may want to start our observation there see if there's anything unusual there, and if they're any more careful with their security."

"Very well, let's see what we can see. If you have a helmet I would advise you to wear it. We do not wish to play our hand too soon by exposing ourselves as other-wordly. For all we know we merely rifted to an odd place in the Coalition States."

Andrew waits for Fext to get into the RHV then heads towards the farm house at a decent clip

"Do you wish to interrogate the inhabitants or should I?"

((By the way, Marrow, how much do Fext and Andrew know about each other? Does he know about Fext's time as a temporal raider?))

I'm actually a Temporal Wizard, not the raider. But I still look pretty darn 'funky' to say the least.

"I agree, showing off to much to soon might not be the best idea." With that he pulls up the deep cowl of his cloak and slips on his gloves covering his hands. "And you might be best to talk to anyone we meet at first, we can hold off on any interrogations until we get a feel for their responses."

"Not a problem at all. Have you got any theories about this place? It's certainly a bit chillier than Canada was, so perhaps we're in a different temperate area? Something like the opposite side of the equator, if you will. Either way, if they're farmers I don't expect any notion of trouble no matter how advanced their plows are."

Andrew navigates the hovercraft to the farm house and parks it close enough to be socially acceptable back in Lazlo, setting the landing gear down and shutting the vehicle down

"Shall we make ourselves acquainted with the natives then, Fext?"

As you bring the hovercraft within range of the farm, you receive a greeting from the natives. Well, some of the natives anyway.

A pair of large dogs, though neither of you recognize the breed, begin to slowly walk towards you. They're not quite growling, but they're not dashing over with friendly joy either. So far no humanoids are visible.

"Hmmmm....dogs."

Seeing the dogs he reaches into the back of the vehicle and retrieves a pair of stained work gloves and puts them on. Andrew exits the vehicle and approaches the animals only so far before stopping and holding out his hand for them to sniff, banking on the mixture of various mechanical fluids that have soaked into the gloves over time to hide his supernatural scent.

Holds back from getting to close to the dogs, figuring his unique scent might spook them.

"Well they don't seem inclined to attack, that's a good sign."

Using Astronomy & Land Nav/Navigation can I get a general idea as to where we are on Earth, or are the constellations different here?

Before you've gotten within a range that would commit yourself, but after you've exited the vehicle and gotten a better look, you realize that despite their very realistic fur, the red glow of their robotic eyes give them both away. As does the small skull emblem on their front left shoulders.

Making sure my forcefield is on and getting ready to cast CoA if they seem to make anything close to a hostile move towards Andrew.

"You might want to step back from those... things."

Ah-ha, need to answer this for Prettz too. There are a number of constellations that look similar, even identical, to those on Earth. But there are a number of other stars in the sky as well. Curious, that.
