Family

Vladimir, (Volodya) father, geologist who no longer works in the field, which was primarily in the volcanic Far East, and is an administrator at the Moscow Academy of Science. He moved there from St. Petersburg four years ago.

Tatiana, (Tanya) mother, petrogeologist who travels frequently and works for Gazprom.

Konstantin, (Kostya) brother, age 25 years old, remains in St. Petersburg where he owns a few franchises of a Russian fast food chain called The Tea Spoon.

Relationship is good with all, although infrequently communicates with brother. Exchanges emails frequently with parents also calls them on the phone on a somewhat regular basis, however, does not use VOIP for some reason.

Friends

Only four friends.

Svetlana, (Lana), age 29 years old, travel agent in St. Petersburg. She and Sonya are two peas in a pod. They have known each since childhood and attended school including University together.

Aleksandr, (Sasha), age 34 years old, works for a real estate company in St. Petersburg as a systems engineer. They have known each other since childhood and attended school but not University together. Sasha lived in communal flats just a short walk from Sonya's building. Sasha posts to Palladium Megaverse forums infrequently.

Viktoria, (Vika), age 21 years old, works as a receptionist at a hotel for tourists in Pushkin, a St. Petersburg suburb where the tsars used to spend a lot of their time. Sonya knew Vika's sister, Maria, who committed suicide when they were 14 years old. Sonya and Vika remain good friends but do not spend a lot of time communicating, but they are on very good terms with each other. Vika posts to Palladium Megaverse forums very infrequently and usually only in the BtS forum.

Meagan, age 25 years old, works with Sonya at the Coffee Cup restaurant. They typically work the same shifts and their morning ritual is to go to the Olive Branch cafe before work. Meagan drives. After work they sometimes head to Applebee's for drinks because Meagan is sleeping with the bartender, Buddy.

Relationships

Sonya is currently single.

Jacob Miller. After graduating from University in St. Petersburg, Sonya toured the American southwest with Lana who knows how to drive a car (Sonya has since learned but doesn't own a car or have a driver's license). She met Jacob who worked in the oil town of Hobbs, NM. She moved there to be with him and they married. But it only lasted for about 2 years. Jacob disappeared. He was a gentle man although it seems that he was leading a double life and kept secrets from Sonya. He would often talk about opening a restaurant on St. John in the US Virgin Islands. They would ride bicycles together and often hike in the mountains; this is where Sonya learned the trails and what not. They had no real friends and there was nothing left for her in Hobbs, which she didn't really like anyway as it was a small and dirty place. She moved to Alamogordo, NM and enrolled in geology courses at the University but the pace has been really slow (as in one or two classes and sometimes skipping a semester).

Eric Donaldson. He was an Air Force officer stationed at Holloman AFB. They dated for awhile, about a year, when he was restationed. He was too deep into his career and not enough into her, so she didn't move with him. Eric was very intelligent and, sexually speaking, weird, but so is Sonya. It turns out that this is about all that they had in common.

Viacheslav Markov. Slava was her boyfriend for about a year and a half during her first years at University. He was about 10 years older than her. He worked in the Emergencies Ministry and although he was fearless the job wore him down psychologically. He turned to drinking and they split. They did maintain contact for a while though and he would periodically write her emails telling how things were going. The last message was two years ago. He had moved to Lithuania and was working as a driving instructor, married, and a baby boy on the way.

Alona Morozova. Sonya's neighbour and closet lesbian. Her father was a strict military man and a terrible homophobe. Alona was rebelling against her father and lacked passion in her relationship with Sonya. Sonya broke up with Alona after only 9 months due to feeling used more than cared for. Sonya was 19. Alona was 17.

Josef Weinberg. Teenage romance. Josef's parents were Germans who were working in the University in a research capacity. She doesn't remember what they were doing there. The family moved to Moscow and the relationship didn't hold up. A year ago Josef managed to find Sonya somehow. He wrote that he was living in San Francisco and working as a computer programmer. They exchanged some small talk via email and his last message was about 10 months ago when he told her that he was going on vacation in Vancouver; she wrote to him she wished him to have fun. He never has contacted her since.

Enemies: Sonya has no enemies or foes. She actively tries to avoid creating them.

Education: she went to school in St. Petersburg. She graduated with a degree in Political Psychology.

Home: She lives in a small and new apartment complex. There are three floors to the buildings with open corridors leading to the individual flats; she lives on the third floor. Each floor has four units except the bottom floor which has laundry facilities on one side and personal storage lockers on the other. Sonya's flat is a single bedroom with a large living room. There is a walk-through closet off the bedroom that leads into the loo. The kitchen is small with a small eating space adjacent to it. Her computer is set up next to her small dining table. Her balcony overlooks the parking lot; behind her building are the mountains. Her bedroom has a queen sized bed with two night tables, a dresser, and an amoire. She does not own a television and the only television she gets to watch is if she is visiting Meagan (rare) or sitting at the bar at Applebee's (somewhat more regularly).

Food: Her favourite restaurant is Si Senor, a Mexican restaurant. As mentioned she frequents the Olive Branch cafe as well. She loves spicy Mexican and Indian food. If she had to pick her least favourite food, then it would be pasta of any kind or in any variation. She almost never eats at Applebee's, just drinks, but never gets drunk. Her favourite drink is top-shelf Long Island Ice Tea and Buddy makes them very good.

Social activities: backpacking, mountain biking, and inline skating - either outdoors or at the Rollarena rink. She enjoys going to Bee's with Meagan but it gets old; Sonya can't sit and do nothing for long periods of time. Once a week on Wednesday evenings she goes to martial arts for private instruction in Chinese Kenpo; she sometimes attends the weekend sessions which are open to anybody for training and working out. She spends a lot of her time at the library reading books or planning out computer programs that never get written.

Computer equipment: Red Hat Linux with a wide flat panel monitor - about 19 inches seems - and wireless mouse and keyboard, which has Cyrillic and as well as Latin letters on the keys. She does computer programming with her computer and that's about it besides emailing and posting to forums - she almost never uses IM of any kind except for occassional chats with Jefffar, Misfit, and Prettz; she doesn't watch youtube and she doesn't download anything.

Neighbours

She doesn't speak to any of her neighbours and they don't really speak to her. It's kind of weird. Perhaps if she would go to the social functions sponsored by the apartment office at the clubhouse she would know more people and know them better. She goes to the pool only when there aren't a lot of people and never speaks to them. She doesn't use the gym on site and prefers to hit the streets to get her daily workout.

Despite all of this, however, she knows her neighbours' faces and their cars. She even has managed to learn a thing or two about them. She's not a stalker, she's just overly curious and will walk slowly by a car to check out its contents and what not.

The apartment across from her is vacant.

The apartment adjacent to her has a single British guy living there. He as a staff parking permit for the university in his car and has a bike rack on the back; he frequently drives somewhere to ride his bike.

The apartment across from his has a tall blonde chick living in it with a small Boston Terrier dog. She's the only one that actually says "hi" when passing and recently started saying "how are you doing?" She's not very pretty but she has lovely blonde hair. Although Sonya isn't a fan of blondes unless you happen to be Scarlett Johannson. The blonde is always dolled up as if she's going to a high class bar or party. Her high heels make her sound like a horse when she walks across the wooden floor to the parking lot. A tall and muscular black man sometimes comes to her apartment. The blonde's Chevy Cobalt has a Dept of Defense parking permit stuck to the window.

The apartment below has a young couple that can't figure out how to watch TV without the entire building knowing about it. They sometimes fight, which can be clearly heard as well. Their dog is a puggle puppy. Sonya loves pugs and beagles but isn't sure how she feels about puggles at this point.

The apartment across the hall from them has a middle aged man with a porn mustache who always seems to be home and never leaves his apartment. Although she has seen him at the library on a handful of occasions.

The apartment adjacent to him has another young couple. The girl has a RN badge hanging from her rear view mirror all the time. She's kinda plain looking and the guy is tall with a buzz cut and average looking.

The apartment across from him has a young skinny as a stick guy living there. His Honda Element is filled with empty Camel Light cigarette boxes. He probably spends all this time playing video games somewhere with his friends. Hard to say. He doesn't even make eye contact when passing in the parking lot.

The apartment on the bottom floor below Sonya is the storage room. Each unit has storage there in cages. Across from that unit is the maintenance storage unit. It's always locked. It contains things like leaf blowers and general repair and maintenance items. The other two apartments were vacant until recently. A young plump girl moved into the one on Sonya's side. She's always have people over - all girls.

Transportation: Bumming rides from Meagan, riding her bicycle, inline skates, or shoe leather. Alamogordo is flat and relatively small; there's no reason to have a car for getting around town in Sonya's opinion. Although a car to hit the mountains would be nice. But she has a mountain bike that does the same thing in a lot longer time.

Shopping: Walgreens. 24 hours. Usually goes at night when there are only a few customers and when Samantha is working. Samantha is funny and kind. She always has something interesting to say - the topics are always very random. She's very cute, too. She's in her 30's and has a very short hair cut.

Clubs: Clubless. She lurks backpacker forums and goes to the library a lot.

Pets: None. She loves pugs, beagles, greyhounds, and shepherds, but she doesn't keep any pets. They are too much responsibility in that she can't just come and go as she pleases. She likes Russian Blues but she's just not that much of a cat person.
