After about an hour of poking around on the net, you find that your connection has dropped.

I slam my keyboard down after the fifth attempt at reconnecting, accidentally breaking my psuedo-computer table to bits.

"...
...
...
well fuck."

the anger and frustration gone as quickly as it came.

I look out my picture window to the sunny outside and for a moment consider venturing back outside, but as it is later in the day and people will be returning home from work, possibly Jessica as well, I try and calm myself and try to envision myself as I was when I went to sleep and before I awoke to this nightmare, and see if I can't find the me I'm used to.

As you attempt to envision yourself as you were, you realize you can see yourself far more clearly than you ever thought possible. But perhaps that's because you're seeing your own reflection in your monitor, but the beast you are isn't looking back at you.

"Wha?"

I reach out tentavily to touch the image of me in the monitor, though I stop short and make a funny face, seeing if the image mimics the face I think I am making but is physically impossible do to having a dog face.

After touching the image, I retrieve my phone, fumbling for a few minutes as I try not to impale it on any spikes of shatter the buttons, I try and take my picture, to see what it shows. Hoping it shows "me", though not really sure why.

I check all the mirrors in my house and then try my little web cam on my notebook.

All of the mirrors show your human self, but the webcam shows you as a monster.

"ok, so apparently I've got some weird vampire-mirrory thingy going on, but electronics still pick up the physical...so as soon as electronic optics replaces everyone's eyes, I'll be good to go outside...yeahhhhh."

Seeing as how my rudimentary attempts to transform failed miserably, I guess I'm stuck.

So I better get used to it. I once again cautiously step into the backyard, careful to spy for any neighbors that might be getting home before hand.

Once in the seclusion of the "jungle" I try my wings out, again doing my best impression of baby birdy leaving the nest for the first time. Unnoticed is the growing crowd of birds and even dogs (okay so only two dogs, but still they are a small but loyal group). For now the physical activity and concentration needed for the task make me momentarily forget the strangeness that my life has become.

You can fly!

Right into a tree. Ow.

But still, you can fly!

Why the hell can you fly????

((cause I have giant birdy wings Very Happy ))

after a few pinecones bounce off my noggin, courtesy of the pack of angry squirrels who tree I just barreled into, I rise gingerly, weary of any pains that may indicate a serious injury or break.

"Ok, so that worked...sort of. Gliding check. How about actual flight?"

Then after a fumbling, bumbling attempt at coordinating both wings in unison, I try to simply lift off the ground.

You successfully lift off the ground. Nothing is going horribly wrong. There must be imminent danger lurking nearby!

I remain airborn for a bit, getting used to the sensation and symetrical movements of the various muscle groups to remain so.

"Fuck it." and with a surge, I soar upwards over the roofs and trees of my neighborhood, going for altitude just to see how high I can go.

You burst through the treeline easily enough. The sky is so blue from up here, and while you don't feel weightless, as your wings are working quite hard to keep you ever rising, the freedom from gravity is intoxicating.

You've gone up what seems like a couple of hundred feet already, but the May heat is shockingly oppressive. Your eyes, your body, definitely aren't ready to be flying around yet. In fact, you're half certain you should've thrown up already.

And it's also setting in just how exposed you are up here. People from miles away could see you.

suddenly wondering at the wisdom of this venture and the intelligence on relying on a comic book quote I read years ago about how nobody ever looks up, the intoxication of flight vanishes, replaced by a cold dread that sends shivers through me, despite the sweltering heat.

I clumsly put down in the tree covered parking lot of the nearby church, managing to only bounce a few times. After getting up and dusting myself off, I look around to see if anyone is about and has seen me, actually I'd probably hear the screams first, and then make my way inside the church, hoping for some help or answers, and maybe if the universe is done screwing me today, both.

why yes I am Very Happy

((actually though Warner Robins isn't like most southern towns, mostly because of the Air Force Base, now Macon is everything you think about when thinking about the rural south, but the church should still be funny))

The local minister is the first person to come across you. It's odd, to see a body that wants to run and collapse all at the same time, but for him, it lead to a stumbling fall onto his back. He seems too scared to even call you a demon, but his mouth is certainly trying to make some sounds.

I outstretch a clawed hand towards him in a sign of peace
"Ok, calm down, it's okay...well okay it's not okay...but I'm not going to hurt you."

It does appear as if he's going to hurt you! Did he just throw a bible at you? Yes, yes he did.

Otherwise, he's non responsive to your devil words.

"HEY! Hey now, what would baby Jesus say about you throwing a bible. Calm *screaming* calm down *more screaming...meh, I knew this would be a bad idea."

but before I turn to leave, I turn suddenly throwing my wings up and proclaiming in the loudest, deepest voice I can muster

"Son of Adam, know that the gates of Antioch have been thrown wide and the beast with 7 eyes and 7 ears has come to devour the dust of the earth. Cleave to your castles built upon the reeds and know your time is AT HAND!"

and then I turn and run from the church, before once again taking flight, trying to stay just above the tree tops, while barely stifling a laugh.

((which is one thing about Warner Robins, we have A LOT of trees))

When you, at last, return to your house, you notice that your front door is slightly ajar.

"Doors aren't jars" I think to myself

I check to see if Sandy is still about outside, making sure my old girl is okay, I then approach the door and peak inside a bit, before calling out.

"HELLO. Anybody here? Jessica? Bueller?"

if I get no answer, I quietly step inside and check about.
