Though nervous to leave an unknown factor mostly unobserved, taking my eyes from the madwoman could cost me entirely too much. I remain ready to move, to dodge whatever she may throw my way while waiting to see what this most recent development brings.

"Fair enough, I was told you were the more level headed of the two." The man in orange walks in bewteen you both, leaving his back completely exposed to you, perhaps testing to see what you'll do with this opportunity.

As he steps between us, I move to a more neutral stance. Still ready to move and alert for dangers, but less threatening and aggressive. Taking the prudent route for once, I ignore the questions rushing through my head and hold my tongue until the situation can be brought under control.

Your sister holds her tongue as well, but she is less prudent, intent on cutting through the man in orange to get to you.

You didn't see him move.

It's important to note that, because you're fast. You're inhumanely fast.

And yet you didn't see him move.

Despite that, your sister is disarmed, her blade a good ten feet to the left of her and him, and she looks half unconscious, as the hilt of his blade has been firmly planted into her abdomen.

The youth in orange jogs over to retrieve the blade, while the man in orange slings your sister over his left shoulder.

"She has potential. She almost actually hit me." The man says to the youth. "I suppose you're staying behind, and you want me to take them both?"

The youth nods, "If you don't mind. This is going to take some finesse on my part, to keep us out of another war with Them."

The man in orange looks at you, "I'm taking your sister with me. Care to join us?"

"It would seem that's likely the only way I'll get any answers or figure out what in the hells is going on with my sister, so I suppose so."

I move quickly, gathering my blades and tossing a small bag of coins into the breach which was blasted in the wall. Turning to look at the young man as I gather my pack from the ground. "The old man, he's done nothing wrong and I wouldn't want to see him hurt. What is your intent about him and this place?"

"Going to Amber in search of answers..." the youth mutters to himself, so softly you barley heard it. He giggles quietly.

The youth exchanges a look with the man holding on to your sister. "I suppose I'll let him live, now," The youth says, and while he doesn't sound sad at all, he also holds no emotion of any kind in the statement. Even for you, such plain callousness is almost unnerving. "His memory will have to be altered however. I'll leave him drunk, outside a nearby tavern. That should account for matters, well enough."

The man holding on to your sister has pulled a deck of cards from within his garment, and has shuffled through it until he holds tightly to a card showing a muscular man holding a goblet of wine, sporting a well trimmed beard. "Hold on to my shoulder," He tells you, and then his eyes begin to glaze as he stares intently at the card.

I frown, not entirely pleased with the answer regarding the old man, though all things considered it could be far worse for him I suppose. Cautious of his blinding speed, though unsure what I can do about it. I step closer to him lightly laying my hand upon his shoulder.

When you touch his shoulder it's as if you can hear a conversation that is already in progress.

"I don't care about the protocols, Random knew this situation was compromised before we even dispatched the Seekers."

And the a buzz of words that you can't quite make out, from a disembodied voice.

"Yes, three. The boy is staying behind for now. Pull us through, Gerard."

At which point a hand appears from the void, and the world around you dissolves into an unending whiteness, while an entire body appears connected to the hand. It makes contact with the man in orange, there is the sensation of being pulled that nearly pulls the air from your chest, and then the white all around you explodes and dissolves into a swarm of intense colors. Browns, greens, a sky too blue to be your own, and you find yourself in the grounds of a Castle...a Castle unlike any you have ever seen. And then you're hit with the sensation of wanting to throw up for the rest of your life.

"Welcome back to Amber, Benedict," the man who had been called Gerard says, with a hesitant warmth in his voice.

I carefully observe, noting the names and presence of these 'seekers'. I almost gasp at being pulled, the blank whiteness sending me into a state of near panic, reminding me of the eternity spent floating in the time warp at the destroyed keep.

The world resolves back into color and form causing me to pant in relief, my hands dropping to my knees as I hunch over, hands on my knees trying to keep from humiliating myself and my jerky.

"I.. would offer... a bit... more of a... greeting... but I'm... trying to... keep from... decorating your...shoes..."

I take deep breaths, trying to observe my surroundings as best I can while I recover.

"It'll pass. First few times are the roughest," Benedict says, patting you softly a few times on the back. "Gerard, I need to get this one to Fiona. I fear there has been much damage done to her mind. See to our guest here. Citrine is occupied in Shadow, but I imagine one of the Specters has already been assigned to him."

"Aye, it will be done, Brother." The word sounds forced, almost as if Gerard was hesitant to use it. Benedict hrumphs once, and then takes off at a brisk walk towards the Castle.

"Here, drink this, it will settle the stomach," Gerard went to a nearby table, and came back with a large glass goblet, filled with what smelled like beer.

Giving up on the hopeless vigilance, I sink to the ground as waves of nausea roll over me. Grunting in thanks, I take a few sips of the drink. Letting my head hang between my knees I take deep breaths, meditating on letting my body correct itself, but suspecting this is a different brand of malaise.

As the feeling fades I look up at my brawny host "Thank you for your Hospitality friend, I've been a poor guest thus far." Climbing to my feet I take another sip and extend my hand "Shaen Bellfaste at your service sir."

"Prince Gerard of Amber, though I wouldn't bother yourself much with the Prince part." The man takes your hand. You can tell he's prodding you a little, but damn that is a firm grip. "The Castle is a bit manic right now. Let's say we get some food back in you, help settle that stomach. I know a place."

I grip back as hard as I can, surprised when he seems to squeeze me down with almost no effort at all. Rare to find someone stronger than myself, unheard of for it to be such a wide margin.

"I think a little walk should put things back in order." I chuckle, patting my belly. As I move to follow Gerard I make sure to keep a keen eye on my surroundings and get a feel for the layout of the place. For the first time in a good many years, I feel I may be out of my depth, and vow to play things a bit more cautiously than usual.

Gerard isn't one for idle chatter, though he does warmly greet everyone you happen across. From servants to guards to more well dressed travelers. It appears he knows almost everyone. And you notice almost everyone finds an excuse not to shake his hand, as if they're all well practiced at the art.

It is a long walk, but then you are descending a mountain. A couple of times Gerard turns back, and seems to nod approvingly at how you're handling the walk.

After a good length of time (You've noticed the sun actually shifting position in the sky), you come down to a bustling city. Though the architecture for the buildings is out dated, even in your eyes, it is all well designed. These simple shops and restaurants look as if they could stand another thousand years. After about ten minutes of navigating through the crowd, Gerard leads you down a dark alley and stops in front of a shamble of a door. The thing looks like it's staying up only with the power of grease and dreams. "Ahh, the Black Goat. The food here will put hair on the hair on your chest. Just the trick, after being Trumped."

He heads inside then, motioning for you to follow.

As we descend the mountain I keep an eye on how things are laid out, trying to keep track in my head should I need to navigate on my own. At his question I shake my head, following him inside. "Yes, sorry, still a bit disoriented I suppose, and perhaps a bit overwhelmed. It's been an interesting few days for me, though from what I hear it may have been a bit longer than that for everyone else. Still trying to make sense of it all. Do you know if that poor woman is really my sister?"

Gerard leads you both over to a table in the middle of the poorly lit pub. You notice that about half of the men in the pub seem to be wearing variations of the various military uniforms you spotted on your way down. Sailors, palace guards, and others ground forces all seem equally represented. "Two specials, Marge." Gerard calls out as he sits into a well aged wooden chair. There's already a clay pitcher full of a dark ale at the table, along with a pair of large wooden mugs. "Amber is an overwhelming place. The rest of your life, with any luck, will be an overwhelming life. But yes, strange days are brewing. And our Blood is a strange thing. She may be your sister, a shadow of your sister, or something entirely different. We'll know soon enough, for certain."

"Amber you say? I've never heard of a city by that name, though I think I have been away for a while. The Garden of Eden was said to be the birthplace of mankind, in my experiences with those of dark demeanor I have found a few references to Amber, the place from which Man came. That and a few passages telling how all paths will bring you there. The archivists and historians believed it was simply another name for the Garden of Eden, with all people tracing their ancestry to the same place."

Taking a swallow of the ale, I nod appreciatively "So now I am here, though I know not where that is. Your reference to a leading an overwhelming life leads me to believe I am not to be killed, so what is to become of me?"

The ale is strong. It kicks like a well aged alcohol of a much higher proof than you're accustomed to. "Not to be coy, as such games disgust me, but you are to become what you make of yourself. I imagine a life of grand adventure for you, assuming you survive the upcoming years."

"I too place great value in simple honesty. The manner of my introduction to your lovely city however, raised questions regarding my own freedoms and future. To speak honestly with you, I believe I was trapped in some sort of time disturbance at my home, and when I awoke I was contacted by those people within hours and here I am. I do not know where I am, when I am or why I would wish to stay here instead of returning home if I truly am free to do so. I feel a bit adrift with little to cling to at the moment, not knowing where I am, why I am here, who has brought me here nor their reasons for doing so, and what has become of my home. I feel I am left with many questions and those with the answers have little inclination to provide them to me."

Gerard sips on his ale, his thick eyebrows furrowing as he considers your words. "They are under orders from the King, and for once showing a rare dose of loyalty. This entire situation is complex. I shouldn't even tell you this, but I am growing tired of all the secrets. There are forces at work killing our kind, metaphysically, in the womb. Keeping you all confused and off balance is the easiest way to keep you all under control, short of simply sedating you, until the lot of you have been gathered up."

With a swallow of thick ale, I consider his words. "So how do I, and the others being gathered, fit into this picture? If we are so easily acquired and held, I wonder what our value may be to you. It sounds as if your cause is just. With the information I have now, I do not know that I can commit to your cause but I would at least be willing to hear more. I would assume that the King or someone of importance was waiting for us all to be gathered so we can be dealt with together. Would it ease the strain of things if I gave my word to remain until such time as we are all gathered and the meeting may be held?"

"As it were, you all are still in the womb. You've yet to even become children. You'll grow fast though, we always do. However, while your oath is appreciated, it is unnecessary. You could run for the rest of your life, your very long life, and you'd never get away from here. That's not a threat, it's simply the truth. You've yet to learn the path."

At which point, Gerard pauses slightly, his eyes glazing over. He blinks them a couple of times, and though they seem slightly glazed, he stretches his hand out to you. "But, you might be learning the path sooner than I expected. Take my hand."

Tossing back the rest of my drink I nod to him and come to my feet and step around the table taking a grip on his large thick hand. His glazed eyes and suddenly acting on seemingly new information reminds me strongly of my recent unpleasant experience. I settle my weight low, keeping knees bent and try to center myself, bracing for the strangeness I previously experienced when being 'trumped'.

This ones goes smoother, perhaps in part due to the alcohol in your system. Your head is only slamming, and there's no waves of nausea crashing into you, this time. You find yourself standing next to Benedict, though he is now attired in a more formal looking suit of chain and plate armor. You realize you're in a large, large room, with a pair of unoccupied thrones at the far end of it.

"You took him drinking, Gerard?" Benedict says with a touch of scorn.

"Whorin' seemed inappropriate," Gerard offered up, sounding for his part totally sincere and innocent.

Benedict almost smiles at that. Almost. "Get some cold water in him, then bring him up to the chairs. Random will be here in moments."

((There will be a new thread opening soon, War -- watch for it)).
