The PMRK - Portable Mechanical Repair Kit - was devised by a rather inventive group of Operators who realized that one could apply some of the same technology used to repair the human body to mechanical equipment. The first PMRK was little more than a reprogrammed IRMSS kit that could repair busted hydraulic lines, cables, etc.

To get the funds to perfect the design, the Operators licensed manufacturing of the kit to Golden Age Weaponsmiths, Northern Gun, and other large entities. This would ensure the PMRK would get a broad clientel, while leaving the Operators free reign to continue their work.

The current generation of PMRK is designed to plug in to a port on any existing diagnostic computer. The PMRK can then prioritize the existing problems and release a swarm of nano-bots for precision repairs. The nano-bots are designed to recycle existing material where possible. If there is extensive damage, the PMRK control unit can estimate how much repair material is needed before the nano-bots can proceed.

Each kit carries 96 repair robots that last up to a year on their micro-RTG batteries. When used in automatic mode, the PMRK has an effective Mechanical Engineer skill of 65%. When used by someone with a Mechanical skill (someone who can optimize the parameters), the PMRK adds a 50% bonus to the relevant skill.

Cost: 80,000 credits for full PMRK. Robot resupply packs each carry 16 nano-bots and cost 3,000 credits. Fair availability.

Only thing I'd want to tag on, for those wanting to use it in my games, is that repairs on MDC parts require raw mdc materials to work with. Remnants of Dead Boy body armor, for example.

((Is it bad if I say I thought something like this already existed in game? Times like this make me realize how departed I am from the original source material))

There's something kinda similar to it in the GMG in the equipment section. I have it in my equipment list towards the end. This is like that, but more like that and the IRMSS got together and had drunken robotic nanomachine drunken sex.

Bah. This is entirely superfluous. I found something almost exactly the same in the Bionics Sourcebook the other day.
